Gaeltacht
Here, for once, I didn't pine for home:
This was a world where language altered all;
Here Irish fitted like a poem -
In school, 'twas just a subject; here you'd fall
In love with being Irish: you were free
To learn the words of love not taught in school;
Oh! Irish was that girl at the Céilí -
If you could only ask her out, not make a fool
Of yourself, and dance with her all night,
You'd learn the moods of Irish on her tongue;
She smiled at you, and oh! your head was light.
You danced with her and wheeled and waltzed and swung.
We danced all night, we didn't even kiss,
But this was love, was Irish, and was bliss.

Gaeltacht: (Irish) an Irish speaking district; the state of being Irish

Céilí: (Irish) an Irish dancing session
